Firms, Babcock University Collaborate On Airline Studies

Sabre Network West Africa , Alpha First Travel & Tourism Academy and Babcock University have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to commence master ’ s degree in Business Administration programme in aviation studies .

The President , Sabre Network , Mr . Gbenga Olowo , said that with the agreement , Babcock University would become the first university in the country to offer aviation courses and that the programme would run between 12 and 18 months .

He said the programme in aviation studies was open to all first degree graduates in any discipline anywhere in the world , adding that it would help to provide manpower for the nation ’ s aviation industry .
Olowo said the first set of students would resume in September this year when the school is expected to resume for another academic session.

He added , “ Stakeholders in the industry are bothered that graduates are being rolled out regularly and they come to us for jobs , but they are not employable because they don’ t have what it takes to be engaged by organisations . By the time we give this foundation here , the training that would be given to young graduates would reduce .

“ The signing of the MoU between Sabre Network, Alpha First and Babcock is for the MBA programme in airline studies . The next thing is registration of intending students and it will be on the website of the school.

“ We are expecting many people. In fact , we are thinking of 180 million Nigerians . Luckily, there is no university in Nigeria or on the continent that runs this programme . So , we are pioneering his programme . ”

The Vice- Chancellor , Babcock University, Prof. Ademola Tayo , said that the MoU would further enhance manpower for the aviation industry in Africa , adding that the curriculum was in line with the benchmark of the National University Commission.
Tayo said , “ We don’ t want that to happen to our graduates . That is why we are forming a fraternity between us and the industry as a whole . I am happy that we are doing this with Sabre Network.

“ Sabre has made a mark not just in this country but in the entire West Africa . I believe in mutual relationship for the growth of both organisations. I guess this partnership is going to snowball into greater partnerships with some other institutions beyond the four walls of this country . ”
